Hello, there are several oral medications used to treat fungal infections in dogs, including ketoconazole, fluconazole & itraconazole. All require a prescription from your veterinarian to treat a pet. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Ketoconazole is a great antifungal and usually works very well. The type of medication chosen depends on what condition is being treated. Ketoconazole is also less expensive than the other antifungals. If you are concerned about the choice of medication I would encourage you to discuss it with your veterinarian. If you can give us more information on what is going on with your cat we may be able to better recommend alternative treatments.
