My dog can't pee or poop and tail won't move after surgery. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 86 lbs

My pitbull ate approximately 7-10 tampons. He had a blockage and needed surgery to clear it. He was completely fine before the surgery besides crying in pain, he was peeing, pooping, wagging his tail, normal besides the crying. AFTER the surgery when he came back home he now cannot pee on his own, poop, move his tail. His butt in inflamed and bleeding. When he tries to pee he just drizzles. The doctor's said its possible trauma to the spine or a tumor. Why did all this happen AFTER the surgery

Poor Moose! I'm afraid I don't know - none of these things would be expected as a result of exploratory abdominal surgery. I would recommend talking with the veterinarian who performed the surgery about why this might be happening, or seeking a second opinion from another veterinarian in your area who can review his medical records and do a physical exam as well as other testing that may be needed to help get some answers.
