My cat is suddenly hiding and growling. What's wrong with her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 9 years old | 10 lbs

Why is my cat hiding under the bed and every time I try to touch her she does this deep very different growl if never heard before?

It could be Jenna isn't feeling well, and that is making her grumpy. A sudden change in attitude including hiding and aggression can be a sign of a medical illness. I'd take her into the vet first thing in the morning to get checked out. Best of luck.

Thank you for the information on Mittens! With this being a new behavior and with the hiding under the bed, I am worried that she isn't feel well or she is in pain. Since they can't talk to us, these are common behaviors that they do to exhibit pain or illness. She could be in pain from an injury like a pulled muscle, hurt neck/back, an infection somewhere, etc. They can also act this way if there is a urinary tract infection or a fever and don't feel well which are quite common in cats. Since this is new behavior, I would certainly have her checked out by your vet. Your vet will check her temperature, do a thorough exam to try and rule out pain and possibly even do an urinalysis. I hope this helps!
