My cat has diarrhea and won't eat. Blood work normal, what's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old | 8 lbs

My cat has had diarrhea for 4 days now. I took her to the vet last night and they suggested blood work up which I did. Test results came back normal. She’s not really eating much. They gave me a list of things to do... xrays, ultrasound, medications, etc..= $1,000. I have not done. She is 8. Inside cat only. What is the next necessary step? Realistically?

Eevee is quite the beauty. Your options at this point are the recommended testing (which mostly looks for IBD, lymphoma, or other issues) or to try different treatments to see if anything works (prescription diets that are high in fiber, low allergy, or highly digestible, steroids, or particular antibiotics that decrease inflammation). There's no one perfect answer, but if she's not eating much, I would move forward quickly with whatever you decide.
