Kittens have giardia again. How to treat and prevent recurrence?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 months and 2 days old | 9 lbs

I have 2 kittens who are 10months old and found out and treated one for giardia and now I find out the other has it. Keep in mind we clean their water bowl, with soap and Lysol spray LITERALLY everything. I’m at a loss of what else we can do to get rid of and further prevent a reaccurancd in the future

I highly recommend treating both kittens at the same time. Once you start treatment, clean and change the litter box. Then 2 weeks after the medication is done have your veterinarian send the stool sample to the lab. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
