My dog ate garbage and is vomiting yellow foamy liquid. Is he ok?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 30 lbs

So my dog dug out of the garbage a few days ago and now is barfing up yellow kinda foamy liquid once a day for 3 days now. He is still acting like his normal self though. Is he ok? Is it related to the garbage? Should I be worried?

Hello, sorry to hear about Shadow. Its likely that he has a dietary indiscretion from getting into the garbage. These are often self limiting and resolve with a bland diet and occasionally necessitates anti-nausea medications and fluids. However, if he ingested any foreign material from the garbage that could be entrapped within his GI tract and causing an obstruction, then this may require further assessment by a veterinarian. If Shadow has persistent vomiting (more than 3 times per day), lethargy, decreased appetite, painful abdomen, and occasionally diarrhea, then have him evaluated promptly by a veterinarian then. In the interim you may offer a bland diet of plan white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken and low fat cottage cheese for 5 days. Hope this helps and best of luck.

That is concerning, and if you suspect Gadget got into the garbage it is possible she got into something causing upset. Bad foods can still carry bacteria, and too fatty of foods can cause issues such as pancreatitis. If this has been less than a day, you can pick up her food and try a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice, however if the vomiting continues, she can't keep anything down, or this has been happening more than a day, it is best to seek veterinary care.
