My dog has a goose-like cough after drinking. Can I give Robitussin?

My 14 year old chihuahua has recently gotten a horrible cough, he has been sounding like a goose and it also happens every time he drinks water , I won’t be able to take him to the vet until 3 days , is there anything I can give him, any medicine , like robitussin ?? Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

Unfortunately, it is illegal for use to recommend using any OTC drugs on Owen because we can't see him in person. We can't say it's safe. In addition, we can't know if it's the right drug. This horrible cough could be due to a respiratory infection, but it could also be due to a collapsing trachea or heart disease, neither of which robitussin can treat. Keep him as calm as possible, rest him, offer him smaller amounts of water at a time, and have him seen by a vet as soon as possible.
