My dog's spay incision is swollen after re-stitching. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | 6 months and 24 days old | 7.4 lbs

Had my 7 month old Jack Russell terrier spayed on Friday. Saturday night a hole appeared in the incision and she had to be re sedated and stitched using proper stitches as opposed to the dissolvable sutures used initially. Today theres swelling all around the incision but no yellow and no blood is this normal?

Hello, thank you for your question about Lucky. Based on your description it sounds like Lucky could be having a mild reaction to the suture material that was used. Since there is no discharge present I would recommend continuing to monitor the swelling. If it progresses, develops any discharge, or becomes warm to the touch I would recommend having Lucky seen by your veterinarian for evaluation. Hope this helps!
