Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 years and 2 months old | 4 lbs

Hi! What is a good flea preventative brand? I would like to use it as a precaution for a hotel stay. I noticed that most brands say from 5-22 lbs & she’s only 4 lbs. also, what are some good supplements? I saw this one on Chewy but don’t know if it’s good. I would like to keep her healthy as long as I can.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The Seresto collar is a flea and tick preventative that is safe for small dogs. It is a collar that provides up to 8 months of prevention. K9 Advantix II is also safe for dogs that are 4 pounds, and is a topical medication that is applied monthly. I recommend reaching out to your local veterinarian to see what products they have for the tiny dogs :) I do not recommend using a preventative that can be purchased from a food or pet store or online, as these are NOT safe or effective for use in dogs. Omega-3 supplements are generally very safe for dogs, but should be used in moderation as they are very high in fat. I hope this is helpful!
