My dog is scratching his face. What's this pink, veiny bump under eye?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 years and 11 months old | 18 lbs

I noticed my dog scratching at his face earlier. I looked under his left eye and found what looks like a weird bump. It is light pink with what looks like little veins running across it. I haven’t noticed it before today and he hasn’t had any other symptoms except pawing at his face.

I recommend to have this bump examined by Baxter’s veterinarian. Raised pink hairless masses can be many thing but there is a concern for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. The veterinarian may recommend to aspirate that mass since that’s the best way to know if it’s something serious. I hope it’s nothing serious and please feel free to post any additional questions.

    I recommend to have Sir Eli examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon.

Unfortunately, without physically touching the lesion and probably doing some diagnostic testing, it is really difficult to say what it may or may not be. Unknown lumps are usually one of the following: bug bites, masses, abscesses, tumors, or cystic structures. Needle aspiration will typically provide a great deal of information and lead us to the presumptive diagnosis. If it has any sort of communication with the eyelid, then it is most likely a benign mass known as a Meibomian Adenoma. These are not typically problematic unless they are touching the eye's surface. If it remains the same size and no other problems are noted, you don't necessarily have to do anything at this time. However, if it starts to become bothersome I would get it checked out some time. Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. Dogs can get all kinds of skin masses as well as things like pimples and ingrown hairs. Most of these lesions will be benign but a few will be cancerous. Unfortunately, you can't always tell from looks alone. If the bump doesn't seem to hurt or bother Bentley, you might try applying a warm (not hot) compress every couple hours for 10 minutes. If this is an ingrown hair or pimple, this might help it to come to a head. If it seems to bother him, have him examined. If the bump is still there in 2 weeks, I'd go ahead and have Bentley examined. There's one type of skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor and they commonly look red/pink, hairless and raised. If the doctor is concerned, they'll test it. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

My 9 year old lab mix has a red bump under her right eye. It seems to itch or irritate her a little. She tries to scratch it with her paw or rub her eye area on something (blanket, carpet, couch). Is this maybe just a scratch? Or something more that
It definitely looks irritated and like there could be a possible cyst or growth there. I would have it examined by a vet in person so that it can be looked at more closely and treated as needed, especially since it's by the eye, bothersome, and been there a while. In addition, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Midnight is a good idea as this will stop her from being able to paw at it and may reduce the irritation to it some.

My dog has a red bump next to her eye, not inside. She scratches it from time to time but her behavior/mood hasn't changed. What could it be?
I'm glad to hear that by and large Roxy isn't bothered by this bump. It's possible that this bump could be due to a benign mass (histiocytomas are fairly common in young dogs), a malignant mass (although this would be far less likely given Roxy's young age), an abscess, granuloma, or other infectious issue. Regardless, it would be best to take Roxy to her vet for an exam to have this lesion checked out. Your vet will likely recommend some diagnostic testing to help determine the cause of this lesion. Most likely, they'll recommend a fine needle aspirate, which uses a needle to draw out a few cells for microscopic evaluation. Based on those findings, they'll be able to determine the best course of action, whether that may be surgical removal, medications, or just monitoring it for changes. Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. This bump could be a benign cyst that may go away on it's own but it could also be a tumor (cancer) of some kind. There is no way to tell for sure just by looking at a photo. I suggest you take Naya to your vet to have this checked. He has a little red bump above his right eye which is about a millimeter in diameter. It doesn’t seem to bother him nor is it itchy. Is this a skin condition? Or is it a histiocystoma which requires surgical intervention?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. My dog has big raw looking bump under eye and need to know how I can fix him. The first pic is from 2 days ago and it is alot worse. I been washing it and put dog hydrocortisone on it. Not bleeding but has blood on it cloth when clean it

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point.
