My cat swallowed a toy, now lethargic and won't eat. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Devon Rex | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old

My cat swallowed a small rubber toy less than 1cm, then vomited it up about 8hrs later. Still active alert playing till then. Now won't eat, but is still drinking water. Has urinated, but no poop, but also not eating. Very lethargic for 24hrs now and starting to get dehydrated. But is still drinking water and a tiny bit of nutrigel. Starting to drink more water tonight. Not sure what we should do?

Hello, and thanks for your question about Luna. This history concerns me - I start to get concerned any time a cat skips more than 1 meal, and if Luna is also lethargic and with the history of eating foreign objects, my concern for a foreign body / GI obstruction is very high. I recommend having Luna seen by your vet as soon as possible. Even if they don't think it's necessary to take her to surgery, helping her stay hydrated can do wonders for helping foreign material pass successfully through the GI tract! Hope this helps, and all the best to you and Luna!
