My cat is foaming at the mouth and acting like she's choking. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 10 months old | 8 lbs

Our cat has foamed from the mouth acting as if she was choking and smacking her tongue almost like a dog and peanut butter, lol, but she does it out of the blue, we can see the panic in her eyes.

This almost sounds like focal seizure activity - sometimes cats will foam at the mouth and make chewing motions during a seizure. I'm wondering if her eyes seem different because she is actually unconscious during these episodes. Of course ingesting something that tastes bad could also cause something like this but it seems unusual for it to happen more than once. I'd recommend having a vet examine Mao Mao - if you can get a video of the episode it could help your vet determine what's going on.
