My dog strains to poop and ear infection won't clear. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 2 months and 25 days old | 25 lbs

My pup sounds like she struggles when she poops. Is this something to worry about? Also we have been treating her ears for almost two weeks with an ointment for a yeast infection. The ear wax has cleared up but she still has bumps inside of her ears and her ears are still red. What do I do now? I feel like I’m not helping her.

If Mia seems to be straining to defecate she could have anal gland issues or mild constipation. It sounds like you should make an appointment to recheck with your vet - sometimes ear infections don't clear up even after two weeks of treatment and it's possible that she needs a different medication. The vet can also check her anal glands and make sure she doesn't seem constipated during this visit.
