Why does my dog limp on her back leg after exercise for months?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 11 lbs

I have a 14 month old Terrier Dalmatian Mix. We've noticed that when she exercises too much (running around at the park or running and jumping around the house) she won't put any weight on her back left leg. I have checked her paws and moved all her joints and put slight pressure on her muscles but she doesn't react. It only happens with rough exercise and will go away after a couple of hour but this has been occurring over 2 months maybe. Any idea what is causing the problem? Or what to do?

Given that this has been ongoing for a couple of months, I would have Mia seen by a vet. She could have a problem with her hips or ligaments causing this pain when she exercises too much. I think having a lameness exam and possibly x-rays on her back left leg would be a good idea. I hope this helps!
