My dog whimpers when getting up and favors a leg. Is it arthritis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 95 lbs

My Rottweiler has started whimpering the past few days when he gets up or does steps. He is favoring his right leg, but when I touch it he doesn't cry.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Dallas. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He may be experiencing age related arthritis, but there are other causes of lameness. His veterinarian will do an examination and possibly recommend x-rays. From there, treatment can be prescribed to make him more comfortable. In the meantime, do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!
