Why is my bearded dragon's urate strange? Is it dehydration or kidney?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Bearded Dragon | Male | unneutered

My bearded dragon pooped for the first time after about a week. It seemed like an outer cover then what looked like urate underneath. Last week he also had a very large bowl movement but I did not think to look at that..

Thanks for reaching out about Phelix and including a photo. The picture looks like urate concentrates and might be an indication of dehydration or kidney disease. Daily warm water soaks might encourage drinking and rehydration. Water can be offered via a syringe. If the problem persists, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess kidney function. Good luck.
