My cat swallowed a balloon. Could pulling it out cause injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Our cat are and swallowed a helium filled balloon and my son pulled it out of her mouth/stomach. He says she's crying other than her being in heat and he is worried that her stomach might have gotten cut in the process from him pulling out the balloon. My son suffers from anxiety and panic attacks and any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated

The balloon isn't sharp, so it wouldn't have cut her esophagus, but it likely caused some irritation. Just keep an eye on her, and if she has vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her feces, blood in her vomit, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would be worried and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
