My rabbit grinds teeth after dental surgery. Is it due to pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old

Flopsy has sadly been diagnosed with dental disease - causing him not to eat food . I am been to the vet which has prescribed me all his meds- he has started to eat food again. But I have noticed (its only day 2 after the surgery) that he grinds his teeth. But when I pet him the grinding stops - will it go away tomorrow morning when I give him the painkiller ?

Poor Flopsy! Grinding teeth can be a sign of pain, so hopefully when you give him his pain medication, this behavior will stop. If it does not stop, becomes louder or more frequent, or he stops eating, I would take him back into the vet to be checked out. I hope this helps!
