My dog's whiskers are short and sparse. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

My dog's wiskers are kinda short and he doesn't have a lot of them. I didn't cut them. Is this bad?

Hi there. All pets have different lengths of hair and different ways in which their hair follicles function, just like people. Oscar's whiskers are normal for him, so nothing to worry about. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

If they have always been that way then yes. Every dog and cat breed are different in regards to number and length of whiskers. Oscar's look normal from the picture. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
