My dog has a sudden bald raw spot. What is it and how do I treat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 7 years and 11 months old | 80 lbs

I noticed a bald/raw spot on my dog that wasn’t there yesterday. What could this be? Please see the picture? I am concerned. She is almost 8 and healthy female lab.

This could be from an injury. I would gently clean it with with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep Summer from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
