Why is my German Shepherd suddenly aggressive and growling at his mom?

My German Shepherd Mix seems to be getting easily agitated which sometimes seems really aggressive. He wasn't like this before because he used to play a lot with his mom but now when the mom tries to play, he growls at her. And when we're petting him and the mom gets near he starts growling which he never did. What it is the problem? Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 3 months old

I'm wondering if Bruce's mother is spayed - if not it could have something to do with heat cycles. It can be really difficult to pinpoint exactly what has caused a behavior change but I always recommend an exam with a veterinarian first when there is a sudden change to look for a medical problem. Bruce could have pain somewhere or be otherwise ill. If he seems to be in good health your vet can discuss training or refer you to a behaviorist in your area.
