Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 85 lbs
I have a 6 yr old pointer pitbull mix who has had diarrhea yesterday and today had a reddish blood color in it. He doesn't have any other signs or symptoms related to HGE that I read in the article. We just brought him back from a brief play at the park where he seemed to be fine. He is a little more clingy than "normal" but he just seems to be tired. His eyes are always blood shot too. Could this be a combination of allergies

Hello. This does not sound like HGE as most of these dogs are very sick with vomiting & "raspberry jam" diarrhea. I might suggest a bland diet for a couple of days, 25% boiled chicken mixed with 75% white rice or low fat cottage cheese. Feed small amounts, nor more than 1/2 to 1 cup 2-3 times a day, no snacks or treats. Blood shot eyes can be an indication of allergies, or stress, but nothing specific. If your pet is not feeling better in a few days, please have him seen by your vet. He may have some other type of gastroenteritis going on that will require antibiotics, perhaps he picked up a parasite, or even an infection from tick disease. Hopefully, he will be feeling better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
