Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old | 21 lbs
My 10 yr old Shih Tzu has a skin condition (like myself - scalp) and I have a prescription for ketoconazole shampoo. I took it to his groomer to use on his last visit to see if it would help (I think it did), problem is - so much more has to be used on him than for me. My question is - is there a less expensive alternative for a dog. He gets these skin ulcers and 2 have ruptured - others have just dried up and leave a scaly film. Not sure what to do to help him.

Poor Tyson! Pets who are prone to skin conditions often have underlying allergies or thyroid disease. I recommend to make an appointment with your veterinarian. You can discuss potential underlying conditions and get a medicated shampoo for Tyson that will last longer and is formulated for a dog’s unique skin (which is usually better). If you can determine the underlying cause, then he may not have any further problems with the skin. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
