My dog hurt her leg, not limping but in pain. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My dog hurt her leg yesterday jumping off our two foot bed. She walks fine and is not limping, but if not handled extra carefully kind of squeals when she is held and put down. I notice that when she potty’s she relies on the okay leg mode. She is eating okay, but just wants to lay down and is low energy. Should I take Her to the vet for anti inflammatories ASAP? Or let it heal like on it’s own like a sprained ankle? She’s 10 years old, a 12 lb jet rescue mix and perfectly healthy otherwise.

Poor Olive! If she is crying out, that generally indicates significant discomfort. If you can get her in today, that would be best. Also, significantly restrict her activity, no walks, running, jumping or getting on furniture. I hope she starts feeling better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.
