My dog gets too excited before the dog park. How can I calm him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 5 months old | 32 lbs

Every time we go to the dog park, my dog will start crying, barking, screaming, as we get there. He loves being there and running around but as we are getting there he always starts doing that. How can I fix this behavior?

You are right that Iker does that because he is excited. It may be very difficult to train him not to do this without a helper. Ideally you train him a command to not bark. Then you start using the command when you arrive at the dog park. The hard part though is that you need to reward him immediately and this may be impossible while driving. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.
