My cat has lung cancer. Is a second opinion on X-rays recommended?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 years and 9 months old | 12 lbs

My cat was diagnosed with lung cancer but the vet struggled making that diagnosis. Can I get a second opinion based on the xrays? These are 1 month apart.

Hello, thank you for your question about Poncho. Based on the x-rays that you've attached I would agree that my primary concern would be cancer. The pattern within Poncho's lungs are consistent with metastatic cancer. Metastatic cancer means that Poncho likely has a primary tumor somewhere else in his body and it has now created secondary tumors in his lungs. The only other disease condition that is consistent with this pattern is fungal disease. Depending on where you live and what symptoms Poncho is showing it is possible that he has a fungal infection. However, I think this is much less likely. I am very sorry.
