My puppy's Giardia won't go away. What's the best way to treat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 6 months and 2 days old | 26.5 lbs

pup tested positive for coccidia at first vet visit at 13 wo. Treated with albon; tested negative at recheck but positive for giardia. Treated with pancur, as well as two older dogs, for 5 days. At 10 day recheck all dogs negative. One month later pup again positive for giardia; all dogs again treated with pancur. At this recheck, older dogs negative but pup still positive using ELISA. Older dogs negative. At a loss how to deal with this. Should puppy be on immune booster such as Vit C?

Hello, thank you for your question about Charley. Giardia can be very frustrating to treat and many puppies require multiple rounds of deworming to completely treat the infection. I suspect that she likely has a more resistant infection and not that she is immunocompromised. I would not recommend adding any supplements/immune boosters at this time. Hope this helps!
