Why is my dog scratching her irritated eye? Terramycin isn't working.

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed

HI, some time ago my dog started developing this skin abnormality around her eye. She doesn't seem to be in pain, but she does scratch on it a lot using her paws. We've used terramycin before and it helped for a while until it didn't. AT the moment we're cleaning the affected area and have her on a cone so she doesn't irritate it further.

Hello, thank you for your question about Pepper. Based on the photos that you've attached it looks like Kaizer has significant irritation of her eyelids and conjunctiva. There are many possible causes for this such as infection, allergies, parasites, etc. I would recommend having Pepper seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine the area and discuss the need for additional testing. They may recommend an impression smear/swab of the affected area to look at under the microscope. They can discuss additional treatment recommendations based on their findings, such as antibiotics, antihistamines, etc. In the meantime I would recommend continuing to use the e-collar to prevent Pepper for rubbing at her eyes. Hope this helps!
