I am sorry to hear about your cat. I’m not sure that the mouth being full of dirt is related to FIV. FIV can cause immune suppression and make cats more susceptible to opportunistic infections. It is also notorious for allowing certain types of cancer to form. You do have an option to have an autopsy done on your cat if you wish to learn the exact cause of death.
