My finch is molting and her wing is down. How to relieve discomfort?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Finch | Female | unspayed

Hi! I noticed my finch started molting almost half her secondaries on her left wing. I checked and she already has her feathers growing but looks like she's in discomfort because of it. Her wing goes down, she is able to fly without any problem but I guess the molting process is affecting her, can I give her anything to relieve her discomfort on her wing. She's healthy and has no signs of illness.

Thanks for reaching out about Phoebe. Molting usually is a few feathers and bilateral (same feathers on both wings) at the same time. Concerns would be over a forces trauma, such as catching her wing on something (between the bars?). If you think she is uncomfortable, a veterinary visit is recommended, as only a doctor can prescribe a medication AFTER an examination. If it is just a bruise. it should heal well. Good luck.
