My albino cat panics after sleep; is it related to deafness or eye?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

I have an albino female cat, who i believe is deaf. Sometimes when she goes to sleep, and will wake up in a state of panic. She doesn't make an noises, but she is clearly afraid of something. She will also swing her ears around like a normal cat, and that is the only time i see her use ears like that. It usually lasts for about five minutes, then she goes back to normal. If it helps, she also seems to have a problem with one of her eyes. It is a grey scuff like area on her cornea.

The best way to check for deafness is to snap your fingers behind Alice's head. You must make sure she does not know you are approaching her, that you do not touch any of her hair and that a breeze is not created that may move her fur. If she doesn't react, then you know that she is deaf. If that area on her cornea is new or if the eye shows any inflammation or squinting, you should have it checked out by her veterinarian. Cats can get scars, cornea dysplasia and a few other conditions that may fit your description. When in doubt, have it checked out. A Feliway diffuser or Royal Canin Calm diet food may help Alice to have less anxiety in general and you may consider trying them. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
