My cat is always calm and doesn't play. Is he unhappy or just relaxed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old | 12.5 lbs

Rocky has no interest in anything. Toys, play, interaction. He just lays there, or just occassionally sits up and stares, always eyes half shut. He loves attention from me, but yet he never seems happy. He's always been that way, since I "knew" him as a stray. Bloodwork etc all normal. He did get caught under a car before as a stray. His doc knows the car saga.

Rocky sounds like a very laid back cat. He likely is happy as cats who are not happy may exhibit anxiety, vocalization and house soiling. Continue to experiment with different toys and treats. Provide him with an area for climbing such as a tall cat tree or shelves. This will satisfy his natural instinct. Provide an area to look out the window. Keep giving him your attention which is what he likes best. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
