My cat has been sick and has black gunk on his mouth and chin and just wiping it isn’t taking this stuff off. What is this and how can I get off?

This "black gunk" could be saliva that is getting dirty (cats often salivate a lot when nauseous), if the vomit itself is black then it means he's vomiting up digested blood, or it could be discharge from a skin infection. Since this is such a wide range of possibilities that would all be handled very differently, I'd recommend a vet visit for evaluation for this one. Good luck!
