How long will my old dog live with an anal gland tumor, no surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | 12 years and 1 month old | 60 lbs

My dog has a anal gland tumor. About the size of a golf ball. She is 12 years old and somewhat feeble. She still has some quality of life but at her age and considering her health in general I have opted not to have an invasive surgery to be done. I know that it is different for all dogs but can you give me an idea as to how long she will survive without surgery or treatment? I really need to have at least an idea how long I will have her. I am trying some natural things that I hope will help he

With no treatment, and depending on the severity and spread of the tumor, Shep may only have a couple of months left. I would speak to her vet who will give you a better idea of her survival time. I'm sorry you are facing this!
