My dog's paw pads are scuffed and sore from fetch. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 17 lbs

I have been throwing a ball for my dashund to fetch on our driveway. He seems to have "scuffed" the pads of his back paws. The paws are apparently sore because he keeps licking them. Is there anything we can do for him?

Put an Ecollar on Wally to keep him from licking his paws. You can make one at home. Rest him for now, no running, jumping, or playing. If he still appears sore in 48 hours, have him seen by a vet. In the future, play fetch on the grass. I hope this helps! http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
