My adopted cat needs Strongid. Is it for worms or is it preventative?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 10 lbs

I just adopted an adult cat from the humane society. Her paperwork said she is due for Strongid in a few days, does this mean she has worms or is this preventative because she had only been at that shelter for about a week.

It could be a preventive measure or related to a previous parasite infection. Shelters are very stringent in their parasite prevention and treatment programs since there are so many animals in one location. It’s best to keep up with the recommended treatment. Congratulations on adopting Olivia! Please feel free to post any additional questions.
