My adopted cat needs Strongid. Is it for worms or is it preventative?

I just adopted an adult cat from the humane society. Her paperwork said she is due for Strongid in a few days, does this mean she has worms or is this preventative because she had only been at that shelter for about a week. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 10 lbs
