My cat has a black area in her mouth and red gums. Is it serious?

Thank you for providing pictures of Sassy's mouth. I do not like the look of that black area on the right side of her mouth, it does not look normal to me from the pictures. In addition, I can see her teeth have tartar build up, especially the pre-molars, and evidence of gingivitis (gums red along the tooth line). I would take her into the vet today or tomorrow to get her mouth checked out. Best of luck.
