My cat is scared of me after vet visits and medicine. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 6 months old

Hi, my cat went to an annual check up and found out that his kidney is not doing well and found heartworm in his blood test as well so the doctor told me to give him 2 medicines everyday and IV fluid every 2 days. However, after having to go to the vet multiple times in a short period of time and having to get the iv fluid and pills, my cat became scared of me. He doesn't let me touch him and sometimes even jumped when I touch just the tip of his fur. I don't know what to do.

It sounds like poor Pook has been through a lot lately! Give him time, he will trust you again. Leave out his favorite treats near where you are sitting, and he will come to get them. When he lets you pet him, praise him and give him more treats. He should settle down eventually.
