I accidentally cut my dog while grooming. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Cut dog while grooming her! I used to take her to a professional but she'd get nasty razor burn so I've been grooming her myself for months and I nicked her neck! I feel so bad and she isn't bleeding anymore because I compressed the wound. She seems happy and playful but should I do more?

Ouch, poor Macchiato. It happens, I've done it myself. I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
