My dog is picky and won't eat his kibble. How can I make him eat?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 15 lbs

My dog wont eat his kibbles. We even bought new kibbles in beef flavor (the other ones were chicken). He doesnt seem to have lack of appetite because he will eat his treats and sometimes steals human food. How do we choose a food he will like? Or what can I do to get him to eat his food?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Riley. It sounds like he may be acting picky. I would put his food down in the morning for breakfast and leave it there for 15-20 minutes. After this time, pick up the food even if he hasn't eaten it. Do NOT give him any other food. This is very important. No treats, human food, nothing. He needs to learn that he has to eat when you give him food, and he won't get anything else. At dinnertime, put his food down again for 15-20 minutes, picking it up after that time. No more food until breakfast the next morning. He will get hungry enough to eat. I hope this helps!

You need to get tough with Kobe. It sounds like he wants this rawhide only, and he's gotten picky. In the morning, give him dog food and leave it down for 15-20 minutes. After this time, pick it up even if he didn't eat it. Do not give him any other food. This is very important! No treats, chicken, nothing. He gets food again at dinner, and as with breakfast, put his dog food down for 15-20 minutes, taking it up after that time. No additional food until breakfast the next morning. This will teach him to eat his dog food when given to him, and he will get hungry enough to it.
