Why isn't my Boston Terrier's runny nose and goopy eyes improving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | 22 lbs

Hello I rescued a 5 yr old Boston terrier 3 months ago and he seems to always have a runny nose and Goop coming out of his eyes I took him to a vet about 10 days ago and they put him on chlorpheniramine 4 mg every 12 hours . It doesn’t seem to help at all . Could there be something else going on with him ? Thank you so much Cynthia Fabricius

I'm sorry to hear Hank has been uncomfortable! If the medication didn't work, I would recommend bringing him back to your vet for additional treatment and care. Flat-faced breeds like Boston terriers can sometimes have greater issues with eye discharge or bacteria getting trapped in the nose folds, and may also be more prone to environmental allergens which can also cause eye discharge and a runny nose (however the discharge is usually clear with allergies, and discolored or cloudy with an infection). If no infection is present, ruling out other issues such as allergies or food allergies may be beneficial as well.
