Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 2 months old | 12.5 lbs
Rocky was just neutered yesterday. They sent him home with Gabapentin for pain, 1.5 cc every 12 hrs. (They failed to tell me to refrigerate it though, luckily, I looked it up). After his dose at 9 last night, he's still really out of it, so I held off this morning. What are some of it's side effects, and is it supposed to be used for pain from surgery? I thought it was an anti -seizure drug.

The main side effect of this medication is sedation. This is typically dose related so the higher the dose the more likely sedation will be seen. It was a good idea to wait on the am dose if he was super sleepy. You may want to call your vet to ask about the dose and let them know how he is doing. It has a few uses but we do sometimes use it as an adjunct medication for pain control, although more often for chronic pain/nerve pain. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
