My dog's neuter incision is red, bubbly, and thick. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 11 months and 15 days old | 12 lbs

Charlie Brown was neutered 2 weeks ago and the incision is healing strangely. There’s a red bubble-like skin right in the middle and everything around and under the incision feels thick especially at the end of the incision. Is this all normal?

Your picture is a bit blurry but it looks like Charlie might be having a reaction to the suture. I would recommend having your vet examine the incision to make sure there are no signs of infection. If he is having a reaction to the suture underneath the skin as it dissolves then no specific treatment may be necessary.
