My pregnant dog had labor signs, then stopped. Was it false labor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | unspayed | 30 lbs

My dog is 58 days pregnant and yesterday we though she was in labor because she lost her appetite and before she started panting and pacing she vomited and lost her mucus plug at the same time. At night she was panting a lot and now she just seems fine. Was she in labor or a false labor?

I strongly recommend you have her assesssed by a vet as these signs are all very suggestive that labour should have begun and she may have a pup that is stuck and unable to deliver naturally. A physical exam and possibly ultrasound or xray may be required to assess the position of the pup and if she is in fact dilated and ready to deliver. I would not delay the appointment as there is an increased risk of infection and fetal distress once the passage is open and any mucus or fluid is passed
