My dog had seizures. Now has red eyes, head shakes, wobbly. Allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | 9 years and 1 month old | 85 lbs

9yr pitmix started having seizures on Feb 27th vet said blood and x-rays were good. Seized again 28th, gives zonisamide, total of 13 seizures until March 2nd. Not 1 seizure since. Had complete amnesia March 2-7.. Now she has squinty red eyes, tilts & shakes head, paws at eyes, and ears, lack energy, appetite, wobbly sometimes. Is this Allergies, ear infection, side effects of meds?

Some symptoms seem a little more consistent with allergies (squinty red eyes, pawing at face) but others like lethargy and lack of balance would not be typical for allergies. With her history of seizures I would be concerned that she might be showing numerologic deficits and that she could have a lesion in her brain causing the seizures. I would not think that this is related to the zonisamide at this point. I would recommend checking in with your vet since these new symptoms have developed.
