Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 13 days old | 47 lbs
Pink/red and swelling just under right eyeball, causing third eyelid to not retract completely; no eye scratching, no pus; eyes move when he's gnawing on toys; discharge in both eyes, but more in the right eye; enlarged buccal/facial lymph nodes bilaterally; gradual onset about 2 months ago. Treatment: no abrasions or ulcers found, no changes with opthalmic suspension or antibiotics; Dexamethasone injection and tablets helped but symptoms returned. Any ideas or recommended testing? Thanks!

It sounds like this might be due to an allergy or autoimmune problem given the response to corticosteroids. Sometimes the lymph tissue associated with the third eyelid can become enlarged and I’m wondering if that is the case with the right eye, but it’s difficult to say without being able to examine in person. If the symptoms are not resolving with treatment you may want to ask your vet about referral to an ophthalmologist.
