Why is my dog peeing uncontrollably and drinking more after neuter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 months and 18 days old | 75 lbs

Barkley got neutered 2/12. Since then he’s had 3 accidents where he suddenly starts peeing like he can’t control it. Once at night. Episodes are spread out. This is abnormal for him- house trained since 12 weeks. He’s also drinking much more water than previous. UA from Petnostics done. Shows trace glucose, leuks, ketones. Specific gravity slightly high. Other view shows nitrates? Activity &diet otherwise normal. He eats 4 cups Iams Proactive Health Smart Puppy for large breeds daily. UTI vs DM?

Hello. I think this is much more likely a UTI rather than DM. Have Barkley seen at your earliest convenience so a sterile urine sample can be obtained & a much more accurate urinalysis can be done. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
