My dog Oliver has defecated in his cage twice in the past week. He's constantly drinking water only to spit it back up. There's an abnormal amount of drool in his cage. He was only left for 2 hours on both occurances. He hasn't done anything like this in several months

Unless Oliver is having diarrhea or fecal incontinence, defecating in the crate is usually a behavioral issue. The increased water consumption is a little concerning since it could be a sign of kidney disease, some infections, or even diabetes. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian to discuss the increased water consumption. It's possible that Oliver is also having some separation anxiety that has led to the drooling and defecation - you can discuss ways to help with this behavior during the visit as well.
