My cat had vaccine reaction. Are tremors/itching normal after epi?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 12.5 lbs

My cat had an allergic reaction to his 3 year rabies and distemper vaccinations, itching and vomiting. Vet gave him epinephrine injection within 90 minutes. Vomiting subsided but he is having what looks like muscle spasms or tremors (not severe) and it seems his paws itch because he keeps flicking them and chewing on his paw pads. Is this normal? How long until it subsides? How long does epinephrine usually last in cats?

I recommend calling a vet near you immediately, and having Linus seen, just to be safe. The epinephrine may have worn off by now, and in some cases allergic reactions require further care. If you notice any facial swelling, hives, or difficulty breathing, make sure to have him seen by a vet right away, as that could indicate a life threatening allergic reaction. I hope he feels better soon!
