Will a dog get lonely or sad if always kept outside alone in a yard?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 20 lbs

My neighbor down the street has a dog that they they keep outside in their backyard ( fenced in). The dog is not abused or underfed, but, he is always outside - All Alone. My question is, does the poor little dog get lonely, or sad? I can't talk to the owners.. They are NOT nice people, at all. Thanks.

This poor dog! Dogs are social creatures, so yes he will get lonely and sad. It's not a very good existence living outdoors alone all the time, but unfortunately if he's well fed and not abused, there's nothing you can do about it. It makes me sad for the dog :-(
